Monstrous genius, or for which we are grateful to Stan Winston

Believe me, it’s hard to find a person who is not familiar with the works of Mr. Winston, T.To. Without it, there would not be a “terminator”, “strangers”, “predator”, “iron man” and many other quality projects, at least in the form in which we all know them and love. Therefore, let me introduce one of the most significant people in the film industry, which always remained behind the scenes: Stan Winston is a master of visual and technical special effects.

Stan Winston from childhood was fond of drawing, creating dolls and horror films. At the end of the university in Virginia, where he studied visual arts and sculpture, Stan moved to Hollywood and tried to find his job as an actor, but had no success and eventually found his calling in creating bizarre characters for cinema. Having studied for three years on a special program on Walt Disney Studios, At the same time, working there as a make -up artist, in 1972 he created his own company Stan Winston Studio and almost immediately won Emmy for his work on the television movie "Garguli". In total, the studio, during its existence, took part in the work of more than 75 films, dozens of video clips and countless commercials.

Even a little joined in music, designing the design of facial masks for a rock band Styx. Winston generally paid special interest to the face, and most importantly – his articulation. For one of the series of Star Wars, he endowed the human facial expressions of Chubaku known to all, although before that his “face” always remained almost motionless. Winston also owns the development of a special technology uniting robotics with puppets, which allows artificial creatures not only to move realistically, but also to express subtle emotions.

Once, during the filming of the film “Robot’s Escape”, for which Winston was working out the process of turning the main characters into these same robots (for which he received the first nomination for Oscar), James Cameron was on the set. Looking at Winston’s work, he invited him to his new project – “Terminator”.

Here Winston also followed the path of innovations: instead of using large -scale reduced models of chrome terminator, he insisted on creating a full -sized animatron puppet. However, here the director himself helped pretty much: ""The chrome -made skeleton of the terminator was developed by Jim Cameron – when he came to me, he already had ready -made drawings. Then, on the basis of the project, we have already made models in three sizes".

As for the first http://singbingocasino.uk/ “golden figurine”, there is an opinion that he received her for working with Cameron on the film “Aliens”. This is not entirely true, because the first Oscar Stan was steamed with another specialist in special effects Rick Baker for the realistic imitation of the aging of one actress from 19 to 110 years old. The sole success, indeed, was brought to him by the evil xenomorphs.

“Alien” Ridley Scott struck everyone with the images of monsters, while Winston managed to build the creation of monsters to a new step. A special headache delivered Stan “Lycevings”, especially the shooting of these creatures inside the vessel filled with water-after all, all the control cables had to be somehow removed outside, and at the same time hide so that they were not visible. The master coped. It was difficult to make a “Hagger” that Bishop is preparing. To achieve a realistic effect, the authors simply used real chicken and cow’s insides! Outside the refrigerator, they quickly spoiled, so they tried to shoot quickly. Naturalism was complete. By the way, the prepared "Lycevit" from the first film was actually a sea crab. So there was no naturalness there.

Several dozens of mannequins of strangers were also made, which were crushed by cars, shot, undermined by pyropatron – each mannequin was destroyed in one double, but not a single scene was needed to be reached – everything was done so high -quality.

But all these were still flowers compared to the completely amazing queen of strangers, with whom Ripley fought so spectacularly at the end of the film. This duel was to become a real “nail of the program”, so there is nothing surprising in the fact that the creators of special effects on one queen spent more time and money than on all other strangers taken together. It was a monster that has not yet seen the world cinema. It is also worth noting that the Swiss artist Giger, who came up with the appearance of a stranger from the original film, did not figure out how the queen would look, so that Stanley invented it based on the already famous design and brought certain innovations.

Stan Winston: “When James came to me for the first time and told me that he wants to make a huge monster three meters high, which should walk and fight with the robot, my first thought was that he was clouded. But after a second, I remembered that this was James Cameron, with whom I worked before, and that once he offers to do this, then he knows exactly how all this should look like. And I answered: of course, no problem, we will do it ".

After that, such works as “Edward of the Nozhnitsa Hands”, “Batman”, “Predator”, “Predator 2” and others followed. And so the ascent of Stan Winston began to the top, as a result of which he became the most popular master of special effects and makeup, for the next 20 years.

In 1990, he was again invited to work together with James Cameron in the film "Terminator 2: Judgment Day". For this work, Winston received as many as two figurines – for the best makeup and for the best special effects. Two years later, he was nominated for Oscar once again for the film by Tim Burten “Batman Returns”, making a make-up for Denny Devito as a penguin and for Michelle Pfaiffer as a female woman, as well as designing Gotam City in the style in which Tim Burton saw him.

After that, Stanley temporarily moved away from the creation of supermostan and cyborgs, switching to dinosaurs, since Stephen Spielberg was just about to shoot the film “Jurassic Park” based on the book of Michael Kruton. Spielberg inspired the 1976 King Kong so much that he even wanted to make all life-size dinosaurs! But this did not seem technically possible, so the search for another way to revive dinosaurs was started.

Stan Winston: “I remember, Stephen told us about his idea with dinosaurs and asked this way hesitantly if it was interesting for us to work on it together. Interesting? Yes, we literally burned with impatience!"

It was decided to use a short -haired puppet animation with miniature dolls of Master Phil Typetta in combination with full -scale Stan Winston work dinosaurs mannequins. Throughout the 91st year, work was in full swing in Stan Winston’s studio. Spielberg and the rest, seeing the production process, came into complete delight: apparently, they had not yet done nothing so perfect at the studio. The crown of creation of Stan Winston – the Queen of Alien – was just as complicated technically, but was significantly inferior to the tyrannosaurus, which was more than three times more. The colossal mannequin of this predator weighed more than six tons, and was twelve meters long. The efforts made by Stan so that the “viewer believes in a miracle” – paid off in full: “The Park of the Jurassic period” brought him another “Oscar” for the best special effects.

In 1993, Winston and Cameron jointly founded the company "Digital Domain", One of the most modern companies in digital and visual effects in the world. After the release of the Titanic in 1997, which gathered an impressive cash register, Cameron and Winston, for some reason decided to get out of it.
By the way, one of the last works of Stan’s own studio was the creation of a costume for an “iron man”. It is also worth noting that it was Winston who came up with the final version of the predator-the primary version was more like some kind of cross-country tick.

It is also impossible to ignore the fact that Stanley had a hand in the creation of games (not to mention the echoes of his work in countless games in film licenses). In Survival-Horror The Suffering It was he who developed the unique design of monsters, which, in terms of the degree of study of both the appearance and their background, are not inferior to their colleagues from more religious horror films.
Since the action takes place on the island-Tourm, the opponents in the game are appropriate, and are a living embodiment of the victims of a particular type of execution, whether:
